Are you planning to go to the Kulasai festival? Here’s your chance to shoot on film — for FREE.

The CPB Darkroom is introducing in-kind Film Grants as part of our community-building initiatives. With the rising cost of film and processing, the medium often sits out of reach for many photographers. This first edition supports photographers planning to photograph the annual Dasara (Dussehra) masquerade festival in the coastal town of Kulasekarapattinam (Kulasai), Tamil Nadu. This open call invites you to document the festival at Arulmigu Mutharamman Devi Temple.

WHAT WE OFFER

• 5 CPB ReSpool 35mm film rolls (free) for each of 2 selected photographers
• Free developing & professional scanning of the provided rolls
• Option to borrow a film camera (limited availability). Rental fee waived; refundable cash deposit required based on gear value. Accessories subject to availability.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY

• A strong interest in shooting on film, with a working understanding of exposure and metering
• Commitment to be on-ground during the festival and shoot the provided film
• A portfolio demonstrating experience in festivals/storytelling/street photography
• A short statement of intent
