In Situ Polyculture Commons | The Remote Residency

Deadline: 01/03/2026

OVERVIEW

The Remote Residency (“In Situ At Home”) is offered by In Situ Polyculture Commons, a nonprofit arts residency and creative commons based in Southeastern Vermont, USA. This programme is designed for artists, writers, and creative researchers who cannot travel for an in-person residency due to practical barriers (e.g., caregiving responsibilities, health concerns, job constraints, etc.).

Instead of traveling to Vermont, selected participants engage in a remote residency from their own workspace, connecting with peers and mentors through online critique sessions and scheduled studio visits.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Open to artists, writers, curators, poets, journalists, creative activists, researchers, philosophers, ecologists, and other creative practitioners who find travel difficult or unfeasible.
  • International applicants are encouraged to apply and participate, as long as they can access remote sessions in English and coordinate times with the residency (primarily around EST/GMT-5).
  • Participants should be engaged in a serious creative practice and willing to contribute to peer dialogue and cohort discussions.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Apply through the residency’s online application form (SlideRoom).
  • The application should present your creative practice and project as you would for an in-person residency, with a budget proposal for remote residency expenses.
  • If applying for the expense reimbursement award, applicants must propose a budget for remote residency support and later provide receipts for reimbursement.

BENEFITS

Selected remote residents will receive:

  • Flexible online cohort critique sessions with working artists, curators, and critics.
  • Two one-on-one remote studio visits (scheduled by availability).
  • An invitation to participate in the 2026 ISPC Online Exhibition featuring work completed during the residency.
  • Up to $600 USD reimbursement for eligible expenses that support your home-based creative practice (e.g., materials, child or elder care, studio rental, etc.), based on submitted receipts.

DATES AND DEADLINES

Application Deadline: March 1, 2026

Residency Faculty & Cohort Meetings: May – October 2026 (flexibly scheduled around participants’ availability).
